Not much info about this mysterious project hailing from France in the beginning of the 90s. G.P.U. released three good live tapes on the French label Cartel Experimental- all the releases of this label came with color cover sleeves and inset prints with info, and they were releseased as 50 hand numbereed copies. As for the music: this is avant-garde post-industrial mixed with noize and cool improvisations... You might like it, you might hate it... Live recordings which are pretty good indeed... Enjoy the art...fart...ruido sonoro...

I expect the followers of this blog shall know already about Ain Soph as well as Nekrophile recs. This tape came out on this amazing label in 1986; at the time Ain Soph were certanily one of the first bands/artists experimenting with magik & electronics---esoteric messages through electronic music. You`ll find here 6 tracks of pure grotesque dark ambient mixing ritualistic sounds, hypno-elements of dreams and nightmares and complex layered structures that are created to deliver magikal elements and ritualistic practice.
Definitely one tape that made history in this scene.
In 1992 Nekrophile Records re-printed it on cd and then it was reprinted again by the French label Athanor back in the 2003 as a deluxe cd which came with a 40 page booklet.
There is an aural pleasure in this tape as well as an obscure sense of dogmatic horror.

The music of the project Margaret Freeman is a good mix of old-type industrial with some musical researches coming from the grey area (darkwave, no wave, electropop, etc etc)... Lots of good ideas and musical styles here. Unfortunately I have little information about this band or project that seems to have come from Belgium during the beginning of the 90s, and released this good tape called Academy Serial on the Belgian label 3Rio Art [Personal label of Hybryds] back in the year 1990. I tried using the power of internet to get some info, but Margaret Freeman remains still a mystery to me [other than the lineup having consisted of the artists Pascal Jeannet & Philippe Martineau] --- anybody out there with more info??? this tape is just great anyway...

[note: Side B was composed for a theatre play "Nymphoman" by Thomas Gerdil (14.10.89). Limited to 100 copies.]

EBU-influences from the Luna Canoe(Red Neon Tapes-Belgium-c60-1992)

Carsten Olbrich aka Ebu is a German musician who founded Ebu's Music label in 1988, and had a number of releases with several monikers and bands.

After some appearances on stage with the own family-band "Familie Olbrich" and being guitar-player in his first school-band "Trümmerhaufen" (1984), Carsten Olbrich joined the band Top Of Pyramid in 1986. His first solo-project Wild Roses existed in 1988 and changed it's musical attitude and it's name into Always Welcome (1989), which now, in 2009, still has revival-plans. In 1989, he founded the post-NDW-project Schmertz Der Welten, which was his main project, until it brokes up in 1998. In the new decade after 1989 Carsten Olbrich choosed a new main-artist-name King Ebu as successor of "Always Welcome". In 1995 he founded the punkrock-band Die Traktor as guitar player, which he left in friendchip in summer 2000. Mr. Welten was meant as the solo-project of the leader of Schmertz Der Welten, but later in 1997 he found the new solo-artist-name Mr. Ebu for psychedelic-electronic-dark-spacy & mainly instrumental music, which lasts until now. Not mentioned yet on Discogs, but alive since 2006, is "Herr Ebu" - a totally different musicstyle with german-sung-pop, dada, trash. Also in 2006 Carsten Olbrich took influence for the revival of the punkrock-band Hacke Peters, Die, where he currently plays bass-guitar.

Non Aggression Pact / Xorcist split tape (GPC-C60 –Usa-1991)

Another great release here from this excellent label General Purpose Cassettes with another two great projects from the USA playing electro ebm! This time it is Non Aggression Pact aka Jeff Willard (keyboards and music) and Jason Withcomb (lyrics and vocals) from Tampa playing hard powerful electronics accented by samples and complex synth structures. Xorcist is a one man band consisting of Peter Stone hailing from the state of California, and playing more dense old school ebm. This release came with a A5 64 page fanzine where you can read two interesting interviews with these two projects + lots of music, zine, video reviews, graphix artwork by E.A. and other artists+ radio contacs and more info and contacts about this scene. This zine is an absolute must towards understanding how publishers, zine-editors, and labels were working back in those days when the internet was yet not part of our lives. The actual cassette came wrapped in hard foil and a brown sheet with info… It looked like a real chocolate bar… Quite an amazing idea, I have to say. You will find here all the scans of the zine and the tape so that you`ll get a better idea. The first press was of 250 copies, and I have no idea if it was re-printed at some point… I guess it`s hard to find nowdays…

FACTOR 42 –TEKNITION split tape (general Purpose Cassettes-1991)

This tape is the 3rd relase from GPC. It contains musical expressions from two bands. One side of this tape contains the current sounds of Factor 42 and the other side provides sonic assault from Teknition. We encourage everyone that hears this tape to contact the individuals involved with this tape. This is a contact tool. If you are involved in any similar activities please feel free to contact GPC. Factor 42 and Teknition are two separate projects hailing from the States who played ebm and electro- industrial music. This tape came wrapped in a small black plastic bag that was held together with a “kitchen wire metal skin” as well as a plastic bag containing 10 info sheets with info, drawings, song titles etc etc… I scanned all the info sheets and the tape-container itself. The side of Factor 42 is called “original sin” and the side of Teknition is called "machine religion”. Not sure how many copies were printed by GPC back in 1991. As far as I know it hasn`t been reprinted. Enjoy it.

Here is a short presentation- as I am expecting that the followers of this blog will already be rather familiar with this project; since it is a rather famous one. The Grey Wolves first appeared back in 1983 after being born out of the ashes of a unit called OFI (Opera for Infantry). their music is often labelled as “death industrial” and their name associated with others such as Nurse with Wound and Ramleh. The two members (Dave Padbury and Trevor Ward) have been often controversial and outspoken, and have taken part in a prolific ammount of different projects, and as well have released many productions. They spread their messages across utilising different medias:(pamphlets, mail art, manifestos), and have taken part fully within the cassette scene since back in it's early days. In fact both members have thier own tape labels (Open Wound and Sol Niger) focusing on industrial music. The year of release of this tape isn`t listed anywhere; however I do believe that it came out towards the end of the 80s, and it was distributed by Strength Recordings in the UK and by Ministry of Ultramarine Theatres in Italy. As for the music; far away from the power-electronics assault that made them famous; this tape is instead crafted with esoteric elctronicks messages and sequencings . ”Legion of hell’ stands as a manifesto of the experimental dark-ambient music of that era.

Another little gem on cassette here dated from 1995. We have spoken already about M.Nomized and also about Mr Moto; here additionally are a few quick hints about them: M . Nomized aka Michael Madrange - owner of the Fraction Studios which were very active in the 90s. As a musician (M. NOMIZED, THE GOLOZOS, DHISMA), music producer, zine editor, sound composer for art exhibitions, and mail artist. Mr Moto is Matthias Lang- zine editor(IRRE ZINE) and tape label boss(IRRE TAPES).

So what to expect from two such names???... Beautiful and creative electronic experimentations which were quite new for that time. Some stuff kind of reminds me in ways of the early experiments in rhythmic noise, other material is definetly more hypnotic, the sound texture collage of effects, distorted electronics, frazzled noises, and weird goings make this tape a little jewel for the lovers of spazzed out electronics. The tape came with a Spartan cover, a carton box in which the tape is kind of stuck, and yes please, don`t ask me how many copies were printed back in those days. Excellent stuff for elastic ears.

"IRRE TAPES was a German label run by Matthias Lang which evolved out of the IRRE Fanzine he published regularly during the early 1980's covering New Wave, Post Punk and the German Underground.
With his 3rd Tape Compilation Ein Herz In Not he started IRRE Tapes which was mainly active in the late 80s/early 90s and released material by the likes of Brume, Maeror Tri and City Of Worms and loads of lesser known and stylistic different artists (Unpleasant Surprise, Fuckedtones, The, Magic Moments At Twilight Time, Doc Wör Mirran) covering the whole range of the Independent Underground from Experimental Electronica to Guitar Pop.
In true DIY spirit he supported the international network of small labels and fanzines through editing the free IRRE Newsletter to spread infos and contacts and writing occasionally reviews for various publications. Most of his Compilations should be seen as an attempt to promote lesser known artists and labels. Without doubt he was one of the driving forces of the German Tape Scene.
He finally called the label days quits in 1994/1995 but soon re-appeared as collaborating and networking artist Mr. Moto.

This tape is a collection of different weird songs and artists released previoulsly on this label-different styles and different names all united by the weirdness aka the craziness of their music. You will find here: noize, industrial, electro pop, hypno electro, ambient noise, and more... It looks like Ebu`s Music which was established in 1988 & run by Carsten Olbrich aka Mr. Ebu reissued this tape compilation as a retrospective of "the crazy side of irre tapes", and yeah the cover-sleeve is just fantastic.

A rather obscure tape here today… Piume e Sangue is a very old project coming from Italy. This tape is in fact dated 1989, and it came out on the amazing label Semiotexterie. I am afraid that I have little information about this tape- other than that the artists behind it are listed as Paolo S. & Gi Jaw. I could not find anything on the net; so if anybody out there knows more; then please send us more info into the comments section of this blog.
The very first track of this tape reminds me of Dario Argento`s films soundtracks mixed with some dark ambient and some noise industrial; while the rest of the songs are just a great example of pure esoteric sonorism… I guess the followers of this blog will not be disappointed with this rare tape-production. a semi-enigmantic release here from thee projekt ov French occult sound artist Dominique Maud which was released on thee obscure label Art Concept in France circa 1995!! there tis info at discogs saying this was a 2Cass x C20 .. however this edition tis a single cassette clocking at over an hour in duration [also containing different artworkx].. astonishing trancing ethnic ritual drones with excellent restrained percussive sequencing!! was tremendously elated to have found this release recently, and am certain that many out there shall appreciate!!

Erratum Musical was thee projekt ov French sound experimentalist Joachim Montessuis who has been active with "transdisciplinary performing digital art & noises, contextualised panic actions, installations and projections all over the world since 1991".. thee sounds ov this cassette were composed circa 1995-96 and released upon Guglielmo Lanzilli's Italian label Biotope Art Organization.. thee projekt name was likely derived from thee title ov a composition by Marcel Duchamp based upon chance operations which was "unfinished and was never published or exhibited during Duchamp's lifetime. According to the manuscript, the piece was intended for a mechanical instrument "in which the virtuoso intermediary is suppressed". The manuscript also contains a description for "An apparatus automatically recording fragmented musical periods", consisting of a funnel, several open-end cars and a set of numbered balls."

thee first piece "erratum musical manifeste" consists ov a barrage ov wierd mechanical feedbacks with wierdly subsumed voices, murmurs, and cries..

"concretions" consists ov a insectoidally swarming din ov vocalisations which were a decomposition ov the text Orant by Matthieu Messagier..

clocking at over fifteen minutes: "l`errance poetique" for which the description tis offered "progessive rhythmic breathing, dynamic energy of the breath in his noise" tis more bizarre audio collage ov gasping, screaming, bestial vocalisations with excellent rhythmic sequencing amidst glitchilly stuttering elektronikx with tapes speed-shifting, reversing, and un-spooling to thee point ov utter disintegration!!

aptly titled "meditation on violence" tis a bombastic cacophany ov assaulting audio tumult in which olde-school video game sounding elektronikx bleat disquietitudes amidst anguished vocalisations..

"souffle initial" / initial breath quiets thee tone for a moment once more, and tis described as a piece for voice, prepared guitar, and hypnotic rhythmic progression centered arround the dream machine.. thee sense ov rotation and trance tis apparent; though Montessuis's manic vocalisations inspire an altogether dis-jarring effect which shall we say- may be slightly less relaxing..

"ode a la louve" is named for the "private French contemporary garden, open to the public, in the town of Bonnieux in the Vaucluse Department of France created beginning in 1986 by Nicole de Vésian, textile designer for the Paris fashion house of Hermès." tis a performance by la cellule ERRATUMique- Yvan Ettiene & Joachim Montessuis.. it appears to have been created using microphones, quadriphonic amplification, and stroboscope.. it begins with quiet French vocal recitations in unision and develops into a rhythmic sequencing with more absurdist vocal utterances which appear to be Montessuis's patent..

Disumana Res tis thee projekt ov Italaian artist Guglielmo Lanzilli who released this compilation on his label Biotope Art Organization, and who has kindly contributed numerous cassettes in thee past for us here!! for this piece ov his- he utilizes excellent throat-singing drones amidst frenetic elektronikx and excellent collaging ov bass rumbles and other indecipherable sound sources [many ov which sound to be animal derived]!! the piece ends with thee sounds ov strings detuning..

Flagrants D'eli were Eli Perin & Fred Perin.. their biography again unknown here other than a number ov releases during thee late 80's- early 90's.. their piece consists ov distant ambiances, delayed and reversed sounds, an interesting development which hints at precipices ov harsh voids- never quite fully delved into..

as mentioned earlier: Swedish sound-experimenter Jan Svensson was invloved with thee projekts Alvars Orkester, Frak, Studio SS, Uttoz, Villa Åbo, as well as running thee label Börft Records.. his piece ov termination for this compilation involves minimal repetitive sequences with soft-synth stabs and restrained squallings.. this reviewer tis often averse the presence ov almost any pre-sets, and finds mild agitation at their minor presence here-within.. given thee time ov this composition it tis not unexpected.. drum-sequencing becomes more present towards thee cessation ov this track..

Quite an interesting and lively collaboration on this tape released by the Belgian Tape label EE Tapes back in 1996. Here Mr. Moto [Matthias Lang] from Germany and De Fabriek from Holland meet on a neutral ground to work on a unified project of experimental electronic sounds. They are delivering to us weird yet beatiful electro-experimentations!!! 8 tracks (4 each side) crafted with minimal sequencing and yet sometimes rhythmic and slow moving forward implosions of melodies/noises. This tape came out in a limited edition of 100 copies, 50 with a red cover and the other 50 with a blue cover, the sleeve design was created by De Fabriek. I quite like this tape …somehow has all the energy and the freshness of the electronic sound researches of those artists involved in this scene back in the 90s.

ANTENNA 59-Ze Do Caixao (Chupa Verga Rex-1998-Italy)

Not much information about this obscure project from La Spezia-Italy. This tape is a C20 consisting of two tracks: one on the black side, and the other on the white side. It is noise-industrial manufactured with different analog instruments, recorded in December 1997. It came out in a limited edition of 30 copies. The label Chupa Verga Rex appears to have been active during the mid 90s releasing quite a lot of different noise artists from the underground scene.
Antenna 59 seems to have been active during the mid 90s untill 2001. In 2009 the Spanish label Smell the Stench released a compilation cd-r with tracks taken from previous releases by this Italian project.
If anyone out there has more info about this label and this band i`d love to know more.

Sétima Legião

Sétima Legião were formed during 1982 in Lisbon. Choosing a path different to the one followed by most of their contemporaries, they opt for more intimate and introspective sounds, adding, at the same time, some traditional folk elements. Taking their name from the Legio VII Gemina Felix roman legion, stationed in 69 A.D. (and until the IV century) in the province of Tarraconensis (which included Callaecia - Lusitania was a separate and autonomous province). These unorthodox choices, combined with the post-revolutionary period that Portugal was experiencing, generated some controversy around the band, not making them press and public darlings.

The project was formed by Rodrigo Leão (bass and keyboards), Pedro Oliveira (vocals and guitar), Nuno Cruz (drums and percussion) and Francisco Menezes (lyrics and occasional keyboards). Influenced by the legendary Manchester-Liverpool axis (Joy Division, New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes...), wearing trench coats and singing in English, they, nevertheless, succeeded in debuting live only a few months after their formation.

Soon after this event, they decide to opt for Portuguese as their form of lyrical expression, while welcoming two new members, Susana Lopes (cello), and later on, Paulo Marinho (bagpipes and flutes).

Before the end of 1982, the newly founded Fundação Atlântica (owned by Miguel Esteves Cardoso, Pedro Ayres Magalhães and Ricardo Camacho) contacts the band and offers them a contract. This will will give birth to a 7'', published the following year, and including "Glória" and "Partida." Serious and profound, stark and dramatic, it reveals them as standard bearers of something that had yet to be done in the Portuguese music scene. Containing, the title theme, lyrics written by Miguel Esteves Cardoso (though dedicated to Francisco Meneses), and an instrumental b-side (which explores more deeply the traditional folk roots), it created a certain strangeness in the market, which, not surprisingly, welcomed it in silence and indifference, despite the good reviews it received.

By early 1984, Susana decided to leave the band, just as it was preparing to enter the studio to record their full-length debut. Recorded, produced and mixed in just four days, by Ricardo Camacho (who had already produced the single), also playing keyboards and guitars, thus establishing a link with the group that would lead him to join, later on, the group.

The album, titled "A Um Deus Desconhecido" (like the homonymous book by John Steinbeck), is released during that year and is one of the most important (and definitely the best!) records ever released in Portugal.

Unlike Gloria, this disc will have a better acceptance by both radio and public alike, selling out its first edition of 2000 copies, giving the band a cult status.
The closing of Fundação Atlântica, led to the band being signed by EMI-VC in 1985. However, one would have to wait until 1987 to see the release of a new album, mainly due to the musicians’ involvement in other projects (Rodrigo Leão starts Madredeus in '85,) and their own professional lives (as well as personal, of course). At the same time, two more musicians join the band: Gabriel Gomes (accordion) and Paulo Abelho (percussion and samplers).

So, "Mar d'Outubro" (the title of a song included in the previous album), came out in September, proving to be a total surprise! If, on the one hand, it presents more poppy and catchy songs, with ever-present gray tones, on the other, the embracing of traditional roots is a more expressive and refined, achieving a perfect balance and harmony between modernity and tradition.

By the spring of '89, they start recording their third effort, “De Um Tempo Ausente”, which will be released during that year, but one would have to wait until 1992 to hear its follower “O Fogo”.

"Auto de Fé", published in 1994, shows the band live, while serving as a sort of compilation of their career, including the new remaking of some of the older songs. Also, during that year, they contribute with a song to José Afonso’s tribute compilation, "Filhos da Madrugada", covering "Cantigas do Maio."

However, the fact that Rodrigo Leão became more involved with Madredeus and his solo outfit, Rodrigo Leão & Vox Ensemble, Paulo Marinho with Gaiteiros de Lisboa, Ricardo Camacho forming a new project, Condor (with Amândio Bastos), and Paulo Abelho with Golpe de Estado, led to speculations about the dissolution of the Legion.
Limiting their activities to live performances, they resume studio work during ‘96, starting to record a new album, which would have to wait until 1998 to see the daylight.

The record, "Sexto Sentido," sees them deepening the use of technology and electronic samplers, at the same time that synthesizers became more present.
1999 sees them taking part in another tribute, this time to Xutos & Pontapés. In "XX Years XX Bands", they presented their version of "Longa Se Torna A Espera", while 2000 sees the release of the first official compilation "A História Da Sétima Legião: Canções 1983-2000", which includes two originals, "A Luz" and "A Promessa".
Another collection is released during 2003, " A História Da Sétima Legião II: Canções 1983-2003", containing three new compositions ("Sétima Volta", "Ilha Perdida" and "Silêncio da Terra", as well as a remixed version of "Ascenção".
Also during that year, another song by them, "O Último Deserto", is included in yet another compilation, "Frágil 21".

Some more collections of their songs (“Sete Mares”, in 2004, and "Grandes Êxitos", in 2006), were released, but without adding anything new.

As for the future, it remains to be seen, with yet another chapter to be written…

Andromeda Complex were thee elektro experimental projekt formed in 1993 by Italian artists Angelo Bergamini (keyboards and programming) and Celestino Pes (vocals and guitar).. as a projekt they ceased to exist in 1998 after four official releases which were produced by Angelo Bergamini [as well as at least a dozen compilation appearances].. this tis their exceptionally rare self-released demo from 1994!!

thee next piece: black versailles; consists ov subdued synthesizer drones with slow sequencer development and drearilly harmonizing raw masculine gothick vocalisations!!

onto thee next side ov thee cassette, and to thee next step in elektro production!! la filosofia del boudoir elettrico begins with great esoteric body music sequencing, and drops out about four minutes in to swelling vocal drones.. a few stuttery steps further as ambient squall develops, and suddently cessation..

TAM QUAM TABULA RASA-Lacrymae Rerum MCMXC(c46-Old Europa Café-Italy-1990)

Another astonishing tape-work by this great band. We have written already on this blog about T.Q.T.R.-this Italian band has been active since the end of the 80s, and they have been very prolific, recording and releasing a very good amount of tapes and cds.

T.Q.T.R. is Luca Ferrarini, Paolo Gentiluomo, Marco Berisso, and Roberto Soprani.
This tape came out on the Italian label Old Europa Cafe back in 1990 as a c46-this label is still active now days and you can easily find info if you just click the link to the label in this article. The same label re-released this tape together with Muleacenani tape(already posted on this blog) as a remastered double cd back in 2006 in a limited edition of only 150 copies.

As for the music of Lacrymae Rerum(the tears of the things)-this is a bit different from their other tapes already posted here(In absentia and Muleacenani). A different approach and technique is used, delivering us a much more industrial sound reminding me some of the very first SPK releases. The ethnic/ritual drone- noise is still there but somehow loops and metal objects cranking and bashing are thorwn in creating a mixture of deviant extreme electronic sounds that eventually crash within. There are also some tracks which are a bit more rhythimic that blow us into a destructive yet creative and organized chaos. The usual aural texture of the other releases is still there but this time with a cataclysmic cacophony. As I said already: I think all the realeses of this band are a must for all the lovers of ancient/ritual industrial music; so I suppose the followers of this blog should love this tape.

Plecid were thee projekt ov David Woodard.. recordings have been featured upon thee Happiest Place On Earth / Happiest Tapes On Earth cassette label which was run by Chuck Collision [Premature Ejaculation!!] as well as upon The Ajna Offensive!! thee piece provided here tis a titilating piece ov dissonance entitled: Sssexy!!

Mike Hovancsek [Pointless Orchestra] tis a veteran visual artist, writer, and musician from thee US.. thee first piece which he provides utilizes mixed discordant percussive elements with experimental guitar wankery.. thee second piece utilizes sequencer and synth elements in this sort ov hokey casio-esque composition..

Here is another release of this amazing tape label Biotope Art Organization, we have spoken about this label quite few a times in this blog, “Eko” seems to be one of the last releases by this tape-label. Tarkatak is the project of the German artist Lurs Pruditsch; who also was running the interesting tape label called Trummer Cassetten during the mid 90s. Tarkatak seems to be still active nowdays and has been collaborating with different artists during these years of activity: C.Reider, No, Anemone Tube, Deep, Klangwart. Eko was re-released on cd-r by the Italian label Blade Records in 2002 as a limited edition of 120 copies in a painted wood cover. I believe both the tape and the cd-r are quite difficult to find these days. The 4 tracks on this tape consist of a minimal sequencing trancelike music mixing quiet-noize and drone effects. Another small but precious gift for people into ambient for vegetative inner trips.

Originally located in Benevento, Italy, but relocated to London, UK in the early 1990s.. well as they say: "be carefull what one wishes for.." between [F@R@W@Y] and Guglielmo there tis a rather special bond ov friendship, and between thee collections ov thee two ov them [already featured heavilly throughout thee blog!!] we appear to be receiving these missing items [much highly sought after here, and being asked ridiculous ammounts ov funds for elsewhere!!] so without further hesitations; here tis thee first ov thee two Devastating Templaric Sounds compilations!!

whilst thee lineup has changed a bit over thee years; Hybryds tis presently thee projekt ov Belgian ritual sound artists Magthea & Yasnaïa!! with releases dating back into roughly thee mid 80's; their copious back catalog abounds with many ecstatic treasures waiting to be unveiled!! thee piece which they provide for this compilation tis titled: Voices Of The Sacred Men, and tis a frighteningly ethereal miasma ov semi torturous chanting and vocalisations with thee clanging ov bells making appearances at points..

TAM QUAM TABULA RASA- In Absentia (C46 tape, B.A.O. –Italy-1989)

I have already spoken about T.Q.T.R. in a previous post on this blog…a very old project from Italy and a very good one indeed.
This tape came out in 1989 on the amazing tape label Biotope Art Organization based in southern Italy and then relocated to London.
The music is a pretty amazing example of dronish-archaic-tribal ambient noise…
I personally love all their releases and I cannot say this is their best tape, but listen carefully to it and you`ll be blown away into another dimension: a fluid space, an inner flight, joyful mind-trips…
If you like other releases by this great Italian band you`ll love this one.
…and if you don`t like Tam Quam Tabula Rasa then you are definetly on the wrong blog.

a rather pleasant gift ov thee compilation Carichi Sospesi [load suspended] with some great Italian industrial has been rather graciously shared with us here by F.C.N. ov thee Italian label Apathya!!

Italian medieval/folk band Ataraxia whose lineup has consisted ov: Francesca Nicoli, Francesco Banchini, Giovanni Pagliari, Riccardo Spaggiari, and Vittorio Vandelli provide thee piece Aigus Mortes [dead sharp in French?] an astounding neo-folk piece with excellent restrained percussions, slow plunking bass lines, operatic feminine vocals, and great looming synth/organ material!!

not finding much info for Putrefazione.. thee piece they provide tis some rather bombastic percussive sequencing with sparse nasty masculine vocals [some ov which sound to be reversed]!!

Dario Polvara provides thee piece Expecta Drum Redea which sounds like metronomic electronic ticking with expansive ambiance and slow synth bell progression as well as some also slow drum machine material

Runes Order tis thee excellent ritual industrial projekt ov Claudio Dondo!! thee piece he provides tis titled Guerriero In Fuga [Warrior In Escape], and consist ov beauteous synth atmospherics with flittering electronic sounds and rhythm synthesis..

In Vitro Test tis a projekt ov F.C.N. who kindly gifted this release to us!! thee piece consists ov slow synth plodding and twinkling progressions semi reminiscent to somehow ov maybe somewhat akin to John Carpenter [a compliment if thee truth must be said]!!

La Casa Rosa Confetto tis another projekt ov F.C.N., and thee piece provided here tis a bit more upbeat drum programming tempo-wise and has rather drear vocals about being too tired for anything.. sounds a bit humorous honestly..

no info for Baked Brains.. thee piece they provide feels a bit out ov place here from thee previous material thus far for thee compilation.. for one they use an actual drummer, and are more ov a psych-rock band..

again no info for Psicorami, and their piece tis another psych-rock-esque one with feminine vocals.. sounds a bit like material from thee Japanese Night Gallery series ov compilations put out by Alchemy Records!!

again my total incompetence as a music writer: no info for Majorana [other than that they have made a number ov compilation appearances].. some effing rad sci-fi synth material with radios tuning in and out betwixt various signals and programming transitions mid-way to slow kick drum and crash cymbal repetition before dissapearing and transitioning once more to some slow symphonic-type locked groove use with more awesome sci-fi synth material.. another transition to a slowly foreboding locked groove with metallic clanging presences, and one final short sektion ov another strange locked groove brings thee compilation to it's conclusion!!

Forgotten Blood was a Portuguese label (based in Penafiel) created during the auspices of 1993’s Samhein. Like the evocative ceremony in which the rituals of it's foundation were held, the evocation of such a sacred day intended to mean that a new epoch, the arduous walk through the darkness, would lead to the fruition of a new cycle of life and creativity while opening doors to other possibilities and perceptions of long forgotten realities.

Founded by Bruno Sousa (B. Ardo - ex-Fé de Sábio), Corinna Ardo (Ku Ku) and Rui Coutinho, it became the mainstay for the recovering of the traditions of Callaecia (North Portugal and present day Galicia), the resurrection of the cults and gods of yore and the promotion of the Catros Civilization and Indo-European identity. This was an idea that had been maturing since 1988, following the path of a radio show dedicated to the kind of music that they would release.

Consequently, the themes, symbols, languages and ambiences of its editions will reflect all this, syncretizing traditional music with industrial experiences and ritualistic ambiances, together with a dialectical dark folk approach, using, whenever possible, traditional instruments.

In order that all this could be possible, a strong friendship and cooperation between all the people involved was common ground, creating a coherent and united collective. This uniqueness was reflected also in their releases, always in limited editions and with handmade artwork and packaging.

Existing until 1998, the label would release only a restricted number of editions and a limited set of projects, not all strictly musical.

The first sacrifice would come out during 1994, in the shape of Zwickau’s cassette "Vincit Omni Veritas", a solo project of B. Ardo (with the help of Ku Ku). This release would be followed by "The Serpent's Law", in 1995 (through the Italian label Psychotic Release), revealing an evolution towards a more organic and natural sound. Afterwards, contacts were made regarding a vinyl edition but, unfortunately, they came to nothing... During 1998, a track by Zwickau was included in the compilation "Lunar Blood Rituals".

Forgotten Blood’s second release, "The Death of the Horseman," would see the light of day during 1995, being the first work by In Articulo Mortis, an alter ego of Lino Villapouca (ex-Fé de Sábio). 1998 found this project’s mentor recording a second effort, entitled "Fire and Ashes", which, however, was never to be released, as the label came to an end during that year.

The third release would be by Wolfskin, Johan Madju/Aernus’ brainchild which, later on, will be connected with the Reaping Host/Reaping Horde label. Having the collaboration of B. Ardo, "The Hidden Fortress" is also released 1995.

1996 saw the release of two more tapes. The first, a compilation that includes several groups related with the label, "Solis Rota", where new compositions by Zwickau, Wolfskin, In Articulo Mortis and Warriors of Nature were to be found, as well as tracks by Listen To Reapers and Forgers, Soluctu Mors, Draukrubna and Silence. The second, a recording by Warriors of Nature (a collective comprising B. Ardo and Johan Madju), entitled "The Roots of Blood", which came out through Forgotten Lair (an offshoot dedicated to more combative and warrior like music). This subsidiary will also release yet another Warriors of Nature’s work, "Serpent Wars of Callaecia", and Zwickau’s "Death's Triumphant Dignity", during 1998.

The label’s last spark of life came out in the form of the cassette "Alborada do Douro – Cantares da Terra Castreja", by Sangre Cavallum, a collective born out of Warriors of Nature’s ashes. This recording saw B. Ardo, Ku Ku, Coutinho and Paul Martins working together. Launched in 1998, it coincided with Blood Axis’ first performances in Portugal (in Sintra and Guimarães). However, and previous to Martins’ collaboration, the band released the semi-official tape “Nação Castrexa".

As for other releases parallel to the label’s input, and not yet mentioned above, Silence (B. Ardo and Ku Ku) contributed to the compilation "Cogito Mori" (by the Portuguese label Putrefactio) and were to contribute to a compilation by Ultra! They also recorded a cassette that, unfortunately, never had an official edition.

Another project involved in Putrefactio’s collection was Solucto Mors (Rui Coutinho’s solo outfit) who also had a release just about to come out but it never did, the same happening with Draukrubna (Ku Ku’s own project).

Another group linked with this label, Kar, which emerged as a parallel project to Warriors of Nature, released a one-off tape, "Words From Slashed Throats".

As mentioned earlier, Forgotten Blood published other stuff, besides musical releases, including the ethnographic newsletter Callaecia, which ended up being a solo issue, and the book by Paulo Vilela “Acto Quebrado", through the Ad Abcessus Temporis branch of the label.

Also, it should be mentioned the participation B. Ardo’s new outfit, Bigorna, in the 2004’s issue compilation of “Tyr: Myth-Culture-Tradition”, and the creation of a new label, Folcastro, which released, in 2007, Sangre Cavallum’s compilation "Troadouro: Retrospectiva 1997-2007".

Forgotten Blood’s output is very much sought after, but re-releases of its work are not foreseen, at least in a near future.

Officially formed in Guimarães, during 1997, as a solo outfit, by Paulo Martins, Oktober Black had its profound roots in another likeminded project, Outubro Negro (which, in Portuguese, means basically the same).

Conceived during the summer of 1991, it included the afore mentioned Paulo Martins (acoustic, classic and electric guitars, texts/lyrics, vocals, bass, rababa and percussions - ex-Pop Trolha, Anomeos and Restos Mortais de Isabel) and João Madureira (acoustic and classic guitars, bass – ex-Os Sobrinhos do Tio Nelson), its music moving between dark folk, post punk, classical music and traditional folk.

During 1992, another musician is added, with the inclusion of Eduardo Silva (from the local band Alliallatas, where Paulo played drums at the time), also on guitars (acoustic, classic and electric) and bass, expanding the group’s musical possibilities and sound contours. Another step forward is taken the year after, with the summoning of Carla Ribeiro to perform the vocal duties.

Nevertheless, by that time Outubro Negro were more like a sort of an offshoot, as Paulo and Eduardo played in other projects such as As Flores da Náusea, Tenebre & Delirio and Complexus Narcisus, as well as studying in college. All this, as well as the loss of interest by the other members, led to the dissolution of the band by early ’94.

Meanwhile, Paulo kept playing in other projects such as Joana Dark and Dalila Noire, while forming his first solo outfit, The Death of Me. However, Dalila Noire’s abrupt end (due to the tragical death of its other element, Fred) and the dissolution of Joana Dark, by late 1995/early 1996, led to Paulo’s involvement with another band, Gods’ Last Wish, that was experiencing some problems too. The ending of it, led to the formation of two nucleuses, first Spiral Rain Dance and, afterwards, At Twilight. Feeling the lack of interest of the other elements of both projects, Paulo accepted the invitation, by late 1997, to play bass in yet another band, Uzi, whilst maintaining The Death of Me operational.

1998 saw yet another turning point, with Paulo accepting Sangre Cavallum’s invitation to play with them, collaborating in their first official release, Alborada do Douro, and in the first Blood Axis gigs in Portugal (in Sintra and Guimarães). It was only after leaving Sangre Cavallum, by the end of that year, that Paulo decided to form Oktober Black, which were to include all the compositions he created for Outubro Negro, Tenebre & Delirio, Dalila Noire, The Death of Me, Spiral Rain Dance and At Twilight, as well as several new songs he was working in at the time. The philosophy behind this decision was that if the others lost interest in playing and in the songs, that didn’t meant that they were no good or that they should be shelved. So, the project was to continue the reasons for creating art and to express Paulo’s personal feelings and views.

During the first half of the following year, the project assembled a sort of a compilation with homemade demos, resuming the multitude of projects above mentioned in a very limited edition of 6 copies. Entitled “The Myth of the 21st Century”, it included songs by Dalila Noire (“Homage”), Outubro Negro (“Hate Everyone Who’s Happy” and “Tired Eyes”), and The Death of Me (“And I Keep, “Take Me”, “Denying” and “Lover’s Art”), as well as brand new title, “Faraway (Take Me)”, all revealing the more dark folkish approach, except for “Hate Everyone Who’s Happy” that was more in the vein of the likes of Joy of Life. However, and due to the poor sound quality of the recordings, no further copies were issued.

Also, by late spring, the project welcomed two collaborators, Francisco (guitar, bass) and André Pontes (drums, percussion), both from the band Blasting Oil. Nevertheless, and during the fall of that same year, Paulo went on to record, on his own, the project’s second demo, “Black October”, in the Reaping Host’s (later to become Reaping Horde) studios.

Playing all instruments (with the help of recorder/producer Johan Aernus – from Karnnos and Wolfskin – in flute, effects and samplers), he recorded three new tracks (“Ritual Dusk”, “Vapour Trail of Your Dreams” and “Desert Wind”) and re-recorded two previously released songs [“Faraway (Take Me)” and “Homage”].

Released that same year, the tape continued the path presented in the previous work, though with a better and improved sound quality, while introducing some more experimental features. Printed in a larger quantity (at least 20 copies, officially), it had rave reviews in Spain, Italy, England and Germany, being re-released during 2000, in CD-R, with different artwork, and offered to whoever requested it.

In the meanwhile, two of Oktober Black’s songs (“Ritual Dusk” and “Homage”) were included in Reaping Horde’s sampler “The Nemeth: A Collection of Songs Forged by Ancient Shadows” (a release of only 50 copies), while the project gave it’s only live performance to date, in which Paulo had the collaboration of Johan Aernus (samplers, effects), Pedro Fonte (electric and acoustic guitars – ex-Defuntos, Ritual Profano…) and Nuno Cruz (keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars and bass – ex-Anguish, Long Lost Realm, Karnnos).

During 2000, the project came to a halt due to the formation of new projects such as Träume (with Nuno Cruz) and, later on (in 2004), Archétypo 120, though the idea of reactivating it has emerged a couple of times as well as a more professional re-release of the previous tapes, but only time will tell…

How to introduce Macronympha??? This is in fact a rather old
noise project based in Pittsburgh(USA) which was founded by Joseph
Roemer and Rodger Stella. They have been collaborating
with lots of other artists over the years on different
productions under this name, releasing mostly
cassettes on different tape-labels. They've never played
outside the States; even so they are quite famous all over
the world. The music is a personal form of sound-collage
of metal-junk looped and remixed to create a wall of noise which is
quite interesting to me. This C-60 tape came out in 1994
released by the Taiwanese label called NOIZE in a very special
package of a photocopy on plastic paper, and one picture
that creates a strange layered collage of pseudo-porn macro
image(pictures included in this folder). It includes 6
tracks; 2 of them live recordings from 2 different gigs
back in the 1994. I have no idea how many copies were
printed by this label with this special package, but I know
that their own label Mother Savage Noise Production re-
released it as tape on 2009.

M.O.A.T.A.-OMEN tis thee projekt ov Sven Pügge who was also a member ov thee great German elektronikx projekt Ars Moriendi!! thee tracks he provides here seem to be a mixture ov dark atmospherix with great minimal tekno/ elektro with interestingly processed vocals!! rather than attempting to draw comparisons with other industrial acts; will simply express my opinion that this tis a very effing worthily listenable projekt for fans ov these sort ov genres!! tis interestingly subdued at times; rather than just being a barrage ov tumultuous assaults..

The Rorschach Garden started in 1988 as a solo projekt ov Philipp Münch [Ars Moriendi, Cell Auto Mata, The Incredible Three, Mandelbrot, Monokrom, Rasputeen In Heavy Leather, Rasputin, Show Of Exaggeration, Synapscape, Templegarden's]and has gone through various lineup changes over thee years.. thee most recent lineup tis a duo consisiting ov Münch and Natascha Ruf.. thee material which thee projekt presents here consists ov brilliant elektro pieces which are very much complimentary to thee materials ov thee previous side ov this split cassette; though with a bit better fidelity in thee production values.. cannot knock either side honestly.. this tis some great effing elektro/ industrial.. hopefully some ov you may enjoy!!

[note: was frustration over having destroyed thee wax seal on thee Vatican's Children - Secrets envelope when it was opened..] here tis an astounding album ov wondrous dark elektronikx from Lvnvns / Therabaqud LeiC [Devil G./ Stebran / Luigi Russolo]!! Theatrum Alchemicum housed this one in a wax paper envelope with a sticker seal [mine was broken before received..] and housed inside a black velvet envelope inside ov a metal casing with hemp cord with a lead seal with pentacle isgnia!! only fifty ov these were made [some were in red velvet envelopes..]

Nux Vomica is a tree(strychnos nux-vomica) native to Southeast Asia having poisonous seeds that are the source of the medicinal alkaloids: strychnine and
brucine.
…and then there`s an ambient project with the same name, and I suspect that most of the readers of this blog will probably know. In fact it is a very exciting sound art musical trio from San Francisco, California. The members playing on this tape have been performing together as a unit for the last 17 years; each with a unique and active history within the experimental music scene. Evan Sornstein, Jenny Liang Herrick and Alan Herrick are the three original members who also have been collaborating with other artists using the name Nux Vomica. Alan Herrick is also the owner of Auricular records; the label that released most of the N.V. works. Nux Vomica utilize sound processing, electronics, found sounds, and aural sculptures to achieve a unique and trance like sound environment. This tape was released as a diy production on 1992. It was a very special release of only 25 numbered copies(Guglielmo leant me his own: number 23), a gift for close friends celebrating the solstice season. It was re-released as cd on Auricular Records on 2004.

Quite an interesting project here called LUSTER. The mind behind it is C.REIDER who is also the head of VUZH Music; a label active since the early 90s. C. Reider has collaborated with many artists and different projects [De Fabriek, Tarkatak, ] and also played in the bands: Drone Forest and Grook`d Finger. C. Reider was active in the underground cassette tape labels network back in the 90s and he has also been involved in music journalism; writing mainly for the magazines: Autoreverse and Mouthy. Luster is his solo project. the 1st tape “not named” was released in 1991(diy pre-Vuhz music), the 2nd tape “ne quid nimis” was released on Audiofile tapes in 1996, and the third (and final) tape “Abandon” was eventually released on Vuhz Music in 1998, and then re-released on cd-r in 2002. You can find more info about this project and all the other bands by C.Reider on his webpage here. Also I scanned the cover sleeve of both tapes where you`ll find more info about the music and the people who collaborated with him at the time. ”Abandon” came out with a nice small booklet (included here)where you`ll find plenty of info about those songs. About the music: soundscapes of grey and gritty quietnoise???? A touch of organic dream ambient??? maybe… call it as you like; this is inspiring stuff from my collection.

"noise: Loud, confused or disturbing sound that interferes with the hearing. All sounds louder than 90 decibel can bring about lesions; the louder noise, less time neccesary to produce lesions. Do The Haters need a presentation on this blog??? Founded in 1979 this is mainly the musical project of GX Jupitter Larsen; The Haters have been around for a long time, playing live gigs(and smashing venues), making lots of recordings and collaborations all over the world. This tape was released in 1994 by the Taiwanese label called simply NOISE. It came out with a bilingual booklet (included here). About the music: this is simply and beautifully great noise industrial at his best!

here you will find 3 songs of strange noise improvisation by this Canadian project Hermit whom we have covered earlier in thee blog. Hermit is the solo project of Eric Boros who was also of Third World Planet, and who is nowdays involved in the duo Vialka [the last project of which is still touring all over the world,especially Europe] You might want to visit their webpage here, and if you do: you will realize how many projects Eric is still running… this tape consists of experimental bass/guitar/effects and crazy vocals with sometimes more crazy lyrics… I enjoy this one. A short tape full of surprises…

This is a symphonic dronish tape from French artist Cyril Herry [Lecanora, Ninth Desert, Exotoendo, Salamandre, Sechres Mound, The Uncanny]. There are 5 different tracks listed in the cover sleeve, but the music itself is just one long song; so I decided to not cut it, but leave it as one 21 minute flow of piano/organ symphonic goth-like stuff with noises of pouring water and some vocals. The cover sleeve is in part made of wall paper and has a very nice small picture on the front: quite a nice cover infact. This cassette was recorded in Lausanne(Switzerland in 1994. I included the picture of the cover and the infos enclosed in the sleeve.

o zone tis quite a bit more atmospheric [jeje..] with fluttery elektronikx and a snare hit roughly every eight seconds..

genetik consists ov sparse pulsating sequencing with dissonant organ accompaniment and processed agonised vocalisations..

Das Kombinat tis thee projekt ov German artists Andrea Pritschow and Malte Steiner!! thee track presented here tis very minimal wave with quiet-ish angsty processed feminine vocalisations!!

Las Cometas Alegres tis a projet ov German artists Isabel and Dieter Mauson [D.S.I.P.]!! thee track produced here tis nice minimal sequencing with spoken Spanish vocalisations!! ends with crackly vinyl noises and some nice sampled string suspense amidst sustained synth..

Mordant tis listed as thee projekt ov Thomas Pilgrim [Germany].. thee track presented sounds like plundered vinyls all played at uber-slow stylus drag speed.. some reversed perchance?? nice and wierd!!

Konvergenz tis thee projekt ov German artist Stefan Rossow [KYAM, Para-Noise-Terminal] thee track presented here tis distant atmospheric reverberating elektronikx and factory-esque noizes with some nice minimal synthesizer progression!!

Teichner left thee projekt.. thee track presented here tis great minimal sequencing with some interesting analog synth noizes and some quiet edgy vocals!!

for this cassette Magic Moments At Twilight Time were Mick Magic: guitar, synths, sequencer, PCM rhythms and FX, Lulu: vocals and keyboards on "Pandora", and Pete Program: synth FX.. this release may seem strange for this blog [what the fuck tis normal here however..??] wierd elektro space-rock from this UK based projekt!! recorded live by the Centauri Mobile on Alpha Nebuli IV on 10-25-91: White Hawk Atomic tis thee first release heard here from these great psycho sci-fi freakx!! was released by Carl Howard's Audiofile Tapes in 1992.. definitely have enjoyed!! perchance others may as well!!

Tarkatak tis thee projekt ov German artist Lutz Pruditsch.. this cassette was released on his Trümmer Kassetten label in 1995 enclosed in a purple velvet package.. Lyssna tis Swedish for "listen".. great trancing ethereal ambience with some minimal sequencing, piano work, and field recordings interspersed throughout it's duration ov roughly 60 minutes!!
